Weather and traffic info for this weekend

The much awaited June Bank Holiday Weekend is here. Before making any plans we always make sure to check the weather forecast. So here we are, to provide you some weather information and to inform you about the road safety advice issued for this June bank holiday weekend.

Let’s go with the weather first. According to Met Éireann, Friday will be bright and dry with temperatures reaching highs of 18 degrees. Although there will be showers, they will tend to be light, at least until Friday night.

Saturday and Sunday will be pretty similar as sunny spells mix with heavy showers and conditions will feel cooler on Saturday night, when temperatures will drop to as low as five degrees.

After a dry start to the day, heavy showers will continue throughout Sunday ahead of another cool night on Sunday night and after a damp, misty start to Monday, the weather will gradually improve throughout the day, with fresh westerly winds and temperatures hitting no higher than the mid teens.

Many people will be heading out for this June bank holiday weekend and therefore traffic on the roads is expected to rise, especially on Friday. AA Roadwatch has warned that in addition to the usual bank holiday traffic, there will be tourists on the roads as well.

Many people will be driving on routes they are unfamiliar with so you are advised to leave extra time for our journeys.

AA Roadwatch’s Lauren said, “We expect traffic volumes to pick up earlier than usual in the cities as people leave work early for the Bank Holiday. It’s likeliest to be busiest around 1pm and 6pm, as well as the commuter routes in the cities you can expect delays in places like Naas, Adare and Carrick on Shannon.”
